NEW (updated June 12): City Bus in Poitiers
The website for city bus in Poitiers is http://www.vitalis-poitiers.fr .
Once in Poitiers, you can get all the schedules at the "Espace BUS VITALIS" (only french spoken), street of the Caudron d'Or, number 6 (near the city Hall).
Unfortunately, the website is only in french. We sum up below the important informations.
The global idea is that there are enough city buses to take you anywhere you want during day time: Futuroscope (Hotels Plaza/Clarion, Comfort Alteora, Quality Alteora and Hotel du Parc), conference site, train station, city center/city hall, excepting for the Futuroscope on Sunday, June 25. On Sunday, there are very few buses going to and coming from the Futuroscope, but there will be free transportation to this destination. Consult Useful informations
For the participants who sleep in the campus dorm, there are also a few night buses between the conference site and the city center (line N2A and N2B), see schedules below.
Bus ticket: how does it work, how much does it cost, where can I find it:
You can buy most kinds of bus tickets in the automatic (blue) machine "Billeterie Regionale" within the train station (single ticket, bloc of 5 tickets or weekly ticket). You can also find blocs of 5 bus tickets in about every tobacco store ("bar-tabar-presse" in french), excepting the tobacco store within the train station . In general, only french is spoken in such stores. Every kind of bus ticket (in particular, the daily ticket) can be bought at the Espace Bus VITALIS, Street of the Chaudron d'Or, number 6 (near the city hall).
- single ticket (Billet SOLO tarif normal): 1,20 EUR
Ask for "Un ticket de bus (tarif normal), s'il vous plaît"
(it is better to have the exact amount because the busdriver may not have enough cash).
Once you have the ticket, you should stamp it (in the machine which stands a few meters behind the busdriver).
You have the possibility to take a second bus with the same ticket during one hour. In this case,
you should stamp the second side of the ticket when steping in the second bus.
- bloc of 5 tickets (carnet de tickets DUO tarif normal): 4,70 EUR
It is not sold in the bus.
Ask for "Un carnet de 5 tickets de bus (tarif normal), s'il vous plait"
When you step in the bus, you should stamp one ticket (per person) in the machine which stands a few meters behind the busdriver.
You have the possibility to take a second bus with the same ticket during one hour. In this case,
you should stamp the second side of the ticket when steping in the second bus.
- The daily ticket (ticket JOUR) : 3,80 EUR
It is not sold in the bus.
You should stamp it the first time that you step in a bus. Then you can take any bus that same day.
- The weekly ticket (ticket PLUS): 10,10 EUR
It is not sold in the bus. You can travel during 7 days, starting from the day where you bought it.
What are the names of the bus stops ?
In order to ask the bus driver to stop, you should press on the red button "ARRET DEMANDE" about a 100 meters before your bus stop.
At every bus stop, you can find the name of the bus stop, the lines that stop there, and the time at which the buses stop there.
- The train station's busstop is GARE SNCF. There are several bus stops in front of the train station, depending on which
line bus and direction you take (see map above, right side).
- The city center/city hall's busstop is HOTEL DE VILLE (main bus stop in the city). This busstop is also a walking distance from the hotels Europe and Ibis center. Again, there
are several bus stops in front of the city hall with the name HOTEL DE VILLE (see map above, left side).
- The busstop (on line 9) for Hotel Plaza/Clarion, Quality and Comfort Alteora is 1ERE AVENUE, in the Futuroscope Area.
The busstop (on line 9) for the Hotel du Parc is PARC DE LOISIRS.
see map of line bus 9
- The busstops for the Conference site are RABELAIS and CITE U (yellow points on the map below). A little further, but still a walking distance from the conference site,
there are also STADE and PARCOBUS CHAMPLAIN.
