Scattering Theory for Transport Phenomena
The scattering theory of transport phenomena, from the Lax–Phillips formalism to computerized tomography and the Wigner equation — gathered into one volume for the first time.
Research
Four lines of work
The publication record below falls into four connected strands, followed from the mid-1970s onwards.
Semigroups and spectral distributions
Distribution semigroups in the sense of Beurling, C-regularized semigroups, spectral distributions, and a generalisation of Stone's theorem to Banach spaces.
Scattering theory for transport
The Lax–Phillips formalism applied to the linear transport and linearized Boltzmann equations, and the albedo operator that turns scattering data into computerized tomography.
Linear chaos and hypercyclicity
Chaotic behaviour of unbounded operators and semigroups: weighted shifts in Bargmann space, the Gribov operator, tensor products, and chaotic solutions of the Black–Scholes equation.
Dirichlet-to-Neumann and quantum kinetics
Explicit representations and approximating families for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann semigroup, alongside the Wigner and Husimi equations and rational approximation in the sense of Kato.
